Mertens Curry Night

Friday 16th March saw Daniel, Timmy, Laurence, Mike and the rest of the 5th form team conjure up three amazing curries, all from scratch. The smell of spices wafted through the House from as early as Wednesday night as the boys furiously worked away, prepping the meats and creating the spice paste. Needless to say, the curries didn't last long and special thanks must go to the boys who coordinated the night.

Mertens House Poker Night 2012

Last Friday night was Poker Night 2012. Will Salt and Marcus Hunter organised a superb event in which 20 boys competed for the prestigious title of Mertens Poker Champion 2012. The defending champion from 2011, Dan Frank, was unfortunately placed on the aptly named 'Table of Death'; pitting his wits against some of the finer players in the House. Not even his cool sunnies and granite-faced approach could take down the rising Poker star, Chris Pernet. James Mackay was favourite leading into the last hand before Chris nailed him by going all-in. On other tables, Max Pierce withstood the challenge of Scott Bennington whilst Andreas Colucci and Matron's husband, Carl made it through to the final round.

In the Championship Round, Pernet conquered all before him in a masterly (some say lucky!) performance.
