The Weekly Report by Moritz von Contzen

The first week of term, as we can all say, is not the most comfortable nor is it the most exciting. The first week of yet another New Year and another new Term has proven quite average for most!! The only major exams which underwent finishing this week were the Fifth form Mock exams, but even that might find an end sometime, hopefully.
Following the Mertens House council meeting last Tuesday a number of requirements and additions to the House have been made including a new Thought for the Day which will start on Monday the 14 of January. During the Meeting a few pizzas were devoured and rightly so it was decided that Mertens would be hosting the first in quite a few years time Italian night in addition to a Poker Night and a Fifth Form cooking Marathon to lift the spirits after Mock exams. On the subject of outings a further 2 trips were planned including Shell and Remove respectively.
Maxwell took the responsibility of MC for the junior talent show to happen this Wednesday the 16th of January.
Apart from the Hockey matches against Churchers where the Boys hockey teams won a greater number of their games, the first week back has really just been a get-back-into-the-rhythm style week.

Christmas Dinner

Mertens hosted their first ever Christmas Dinner in the Common Room with all boys and tutors sitting down for an amazing Christmas dinner. The entertainment of the evening began with some witty one-liners from James E, the 5th form choir performing; 'All I Want For Christmas' while Scott B and Ollie CM rounded off the evening with their Rowan Atkinson sketch, 'Fatal Beatings'.
Mr T and Tom M finished the night with a bang; letting off fireworks outside the House. Apologies for the lack of photos but they all came out blurred due to the Auto Focus override!!!

House Football 2012 - Mertens come 2nd!!

Congratulations to both Junior and Senior football who played with grit and determination to come agonisingly close to winning both Cups this year. The Seniors were undefeated and only finished second on goal difference whilst the Juniors lost a hard fought first match against Crosse before going onto to conquer both Rhodes and Hilton in comprehensive victories. Well done to Gani and Eddie for their leadership both on and off the pitch and to Sergej for the brilliant photos. Next year we go one further!!
