BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS 2016

After many long years of dormant competition, Mertens basketballers have breathed new life into Ardingly basketball with an outstanding, unexpected, come-from-behind victory in House competition. After an initial win against Crosse in week 1, Mertens took the competition by the throat with a gutsy win against pre-tournament favourites Hilton. In the final match against Rhodes, trailing by 2 points and needing at least a draw to win the tournament, Will Tam stepped up to the free-throw line to smartly sink two baskets and send his team and supporters into rapturous celebration. Not since David Beckham's curling free kick against Greece in 2002 has a sporting crowd witnessed such a defiant yet deserving comeback!! All credit must go to Will Tam and Raph Adomakoh for leading their team from the front and inspiring team mates with their passion.
